Delicious Inc. “Tamale Eating Contest”
Official Rules and Release 2010
Eligibility:
Contest is open to all U.S residents 18 years or older. Two contestants
from each of Delicious Tamales’ six store locations will be selected 24 hours
in advance of by April 17, 2010. Contestants chosen to participate from a
special drawing will be notified by telephone.
To Enter: Read carefully the Official Contest Rules for
Delicious Inc. Tamale Eating Contest to be held on Saturday April 17, 2010, including the eligibility requirement and
waiver of liability provisions. Complete and sign the document below. All entry forms become the property of
Delicious Inc. (dba Delicious Tamales).
Contest Rules: Contestants will compete in one round to
determine the winners in three separate categories: one with all men; one with all women and one
celebrity round; up to 12 contestants in each category. The objective is to eat
as many tamales as possible within the allotted time: two (2) minutes. Contestants
will all start at the same time. Each contestant will begin the competition
with two dozen tamales in shucks. Contestant
may eat sitting or standing in their designated area using hands, knife, fork
and/or spoon. Contestant will be allowed one half liter (16.9oz) of water
during the competition. Contestants must complete eating one (1) tamale before
proceeding to the next tamale. Contestants must wait for the starting signal to
begin eating and may not touch any tamale or utensil prior to the starting
signal. Contestants must stop eating at the ending signal. Contestants may not
put additional tamales or portions of tamales in their mouths after the ending
signal, but will be allowed 15 seconds to swallow any tamale already in mouth.
If a contestant vomits or regurgitates, he/she is disqualified. Judges will be
on hand to assure adherence to contest rules, tally tamales eaten, and monitor
the no vomiting rule and to disqualify contestants who fail to adhere to the
rules. Winners will be determined by counting the number of tamales and parts
of tamales eaten. In the event of a tie,
after a brief interval, one (1) minute eat-offs will take place until a winner
is selected. Grounds for disqualification include:
- Starting prior to
the start signal
- Eating after the
ending signal
- Failure to
completely finish a tamale prior to beginning another tamale

Vomiting
Prize Awards: Prizes will be awarded as follows in each
category*:
- 1st Place: $250 cash, trophy and T-shirt.
- 2nd Place: $150 cash, trophy and T-shirt.
- 3rd Place: $50 cash,
trophy and T-shirt.
*Contest prizes subject to change.
Delicious
Tamales reserves the right to substitute prizes of approximately equal value
for any listed prize at its sole discretion. No transfer or prize substitution
is allowed. All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of
the winner.
It
is the responsibility of the winners to comply with all instruction as to the
pick-up, receipt, arrangements for or use of any prize won and failure to do so
on a timely basis may affect the winner’s right to claim or use the prizes. All
winners agree to the use of their name, voice, likeness and city/town/village
for advertising or trade purposes and cooperate reasonably in any effort to
promote or publicize the Delicious Tamales Inc. company or this contest.
Acknowledgement
of Risks and Waiver of Liability: Contestant
acknowledges that there are risks of personal injury, illness and possible loss
of life and risks of damage to or loss of personal property, which may result
from participating in this contest. Contestant voluntarily enters Delicious
Inc. Tamale Eating Contest and assumes all of these risks. Contestant, as a
condition of entry, agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Delicious Inc. and
affiliated companies, their vendors, their advertising, promotion and public
relations agencies, co-sponsoring companies and their affiliates and agencies,
all officers, directors, employees and agents of the aforesaid entities, from
any and all claims and cost, including attorneys’ fees arising from or in
connection with participation in this contest or the receipt or use of any
prize. In so doing, contestant releases and indemnifies the aforesaid entities
and individuals for liabilities for injuries or damages of any kind arising
from or in connection with participation in this contest or the receipt or use
of any prize, except where such claims or costs arise out of the indemnified
party’s gross negligence.
Final
Authority: Delicious Inc. has final authority
regarding all contest-related matters.
